How to Use Pages on Blogger

This tutorial will explain how to use Pages to add a tool bar to your blog. Thankfully, it is very simple.

Let's say you have a header like this:

But you want to add some links below your header. Ones that say "home" "about me" "contact me" and "recipes"

First you should create the Pages you want.

Go to POSTING
then go to EDIT PAGES
then to NEW PAGE

Now you can add your title "about me"
Then your text, just like a NEW POST. You will not need to make a "home" Page because that is automatically added when you add the Pages widget.

Add all the Pages you want (up to 10) following the before mentioned steps. If you want to add a page that says "recipes" that will lead your readers to all the post that you have LABELED "recipes" then follow these steps.

Open your blog in a new window
Find a Post with the Label you are searching for
Click on the Label link
Now all the posts that I have LABELED with "recipes" will be available below.
Copy the URL ADDRESS

Go back to the NEW PAGE page
Look for the small button that says "Link"
Paste the URL ADDRESS
Add text that says something like "Click Here for My Recipes"
I wish it were a direct link- but that's as good as it gets for now

Now that you have created all the pages you want it's time to move the widget under your header.

Go to LAYOUT
locate your Pages Widget (or add the Pages widget if it's not up yet)
Grab and carry the widget until a section is highlighted just under your header
Drop the widget
PREVIEW and then SAVE

That's it! You now have a fully functioning Toolbar/ Navigation bar/ or Tabs as Blogger likes to call it. Email me if you run into any problems!
Happy Blogging!

This is probably a really easy thing but... how can I change the color of my background (where I type) on my blog... I have a really cute layout/background for my blog... but the part where I type and have my pictures is only WHITE in the background... I think I am just missing something really easy here but my mind is having a Mommy moment right now and so I thought i'd ask! LOL- thanks!
by the way...I just did the pages on Blogger and I am loving it!! :)

Wow - that sure was a huge help! I'm a new blogger and I've been trying to figure this out for a month. I also have a question - when I finished putting the pages links in they came in in red and I want them to be white. Can a person change the color of the print? Thanks for your help!

People do have direct links now and I just can't figure it out. Let me know if you do. I hate that you have to click on the tab and then click again to take you where you need to go.

Chelsie-

I can't believe it!! I didn't realise that you can't post video with the new post editor... so lame. I guess we will just have to go back and forth until they fix that.

Daniela-

I should have mentioned this earlier! If you are interested in making direct links you can use a LINK LIST in place of PAGES.

just go to EDIT LAYOUT
ADD A GADGET
add LINK LIST

and create your list from there, you can then move the list around to a location you like. The new gadget will just be on your sidebar at first, but you can drag it to the location you want; the most popular places are under or over the header, of course.

Is there anyway that you can teach us how to change the font on the pages to a different font like you have on your blog? Thanks for the help with pages!

Sorry it took me so long to reply!!

All you need to do is go to DASHBOARD and then to NEW POST a page will open for you to create a new post, but you will then look for a little blue link that says NEW PAGE... from there you can create Pages for your blog :)

Hope this helps!

I am find until I get to this part (pasted below)! I see where I can add a gadget but I can't drag an empty gadgetbox under my header...I'm so confused. I updated to the new interface and still now luck on figuring the last part out - Please help?

Go to LAYOUT
locate your Pages Widget (or add the Pages widget if it's not up yet)
Grab and carry the widget until a section is highlighted just under your header
Drop the widget
PREVIEW and then SAVE

Ah never mind on my previous comment. The updated Blogger interface allows for top, or side (no none) tabbing , with a simple click. Now if I could figure out how to keep certain elements on the Pages page of choice vs added gadgets and elements all being on my Home page!

Any ideas? When I first selected the Pages, it showed a view basic 3 column type layouts, now that I added the Pages to link news etc...the interface does not show the Pages layouts anymore. If I edit the gadgets from my home page, that show up around my Pages Page, will it remove it from the home page and put it next to the posting box on the Pages Page?

UGH I feel like I am stuck in some kind of google blogger tongue twister from he*l right now!

Thanks for all your tips.

Emm..may be it's better to use Link List from Page Element
After creating a pages, do not Publish then Copy URL address to Link List (Place Link List on header to act as Page Menu). You can also add URL each of Labels You have, Taaaraa It's done beatufully

The real functionality of Pages: Perhaps You may use Link List Instead than add URLs of pages You've created to it.

Anna Sundrud Trang said...

Thank you so much for this! So I used your advice on my blog, but I did insert a link for the pages so now when you click the page, it goes directly to all the links. Wanna see? www.annasundrudtrang.blogspot.com

I'm pretty excited about it, and I love my new bar!

For some reason my blog says that I already have Pages installed.. but I don't. Any ideas on either how to delete it or find where it's hiding?

Angela said...

has blogger updated this process since you originally posted this tutorial?

Jennifer Hartling said...

I think the process might be different now? But I'd sure LOVE to learn how to do this!

I understand everything and got the pages to work, but at the top it says "showing posts with label ___" because that's the link I used? I don't see this on anyone elses page when I click on different pages. How do I get that to go away?

I did this, but instead of moving "pages" under my title, I moved the "tags" bar instead. Just like pages, a little simpler. Thanks for the input! I was having trouble figuring this out, and it was a great help.

Great tips and so easy to understand! I do have one problem, I am able to get the posts I want on the new pages (for example all the ones labeled Main Dishes) but it's not a list of links...just the posts. I tried the link list as you suggested and it's the same thing..a list of my posts in detail..not just the url links. How do I go about getting a list on there? THanks
